Prevention of Unintentional Injuries

These pages contain evidenced-based prevention guidelines from four sources:  

• Guide to Community Preventive Services. Recommendations from a public-private Task Force, appointed by the director of the CDC (1996) to address community and population-based prevention strategies; injury specific.

• Guide to Clinical Preventive Services (ARHQ, US DHHS). Recommendations from a public-private Task Force that identified and assessed the evidence on the efficacy of 169 clinical preventive services (1996).

• Guide to Preventive Health in Children: The Pocket Guide to Good Health for Children (ARHQ, US DHHS). Parent safety checklist, age-specific.

• American Academy of Pediatrics. Recommendations adapted from APP Guidelines for Pediatrician Patient Counseling; has age and injury-specific guidelines.
