Pinellas County The Pinellas County project is made possible through a grant from the All Children’s Hospital Foundation, Inc. The grant funding has enabled ACT for Health to start the development of a national web-based clearinghouse to provide evidenced-based information for community members and parents in Healthy People 2010 (HP 2010) focus areas with extensive content and links to existing resources and answers to anticipated questions. As you use this site you will experience a user-friendly portal that brings together the abundance of evidenced-based information that is currently available on the internet into an organized and intuitive architecture for specific audiences. Asthma and Unintentional Injuries have been selected as the two HP 2010 issues for the first year because of their morbidity and mortality as well as the presence of significant disparities in these objectives for minority Americans. As part of the Pinellas County Project we held a Summit on Injury Prevention and Control, on September 23, 2004 at the All Children’s Hospital Education and Conference Center. The Summit was especially targeted to reach people who work or volunteer in environments with children’s and youth where unintentional injury may occur. The Summit provided attendees with the latest evidence on how injuries occur and the best practices on how to prevent them. Topics included:
The Keynote speaker at the conference was Dr. Christine Branche, Director Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention and Control Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A chartbook on hospital care for childhood traumatic injury at All Children's Hospital was released at this summit. The Summit was sponsored by ACT For Health, All Children’s Hospital, Florida Suncoast Safe Kids Coalition (home site for the Safe Kids Campaign), American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Pinellas County Health Department and the Partnership for a Healthier Pinellas. STEPS to a Healthier Pinellas is a five year program supported through a grant from US DHHS to improve the health of Pinellas County residents by reducing diabetes, overweight, obesity, and asthma. The initiative addresses three related health risk factors: physical inactivity, poor nutrition and tobacco use. This link goes to the Pinellas County Health Department.
